3 Types of Warranties

3 Types of Warranties for Your Car or Light Truck

Be Careful When You Buy a Warranty

  1. Manufacturers Warranty... It comes free with your NEW VEHICLE and continues to another owner up to a certain age or mileage. It covers the cost of defective manufacturing or defective parts. Only the car dealer can perform these repairs....You don't have to go back to the dealer for preventative maintenance like filters or hoses even if they imply you must.
  2. Extended Warranty...When you purchase your used vehicle you can also purchase an EXTENDED WARRANTY. It covers a percentage of the repair costs up to a certain mileage or vehicle age. Any repair shop can call the warranty company for authorization to do the repair. You do not have to return to that dealer far any repairs or preventative maintenance even if they imply you must.
  3. Restricted Extended Warranty...There are warranties that force you to return to the dealership for all your covered repairs. This type of warranty is very restrictive and does not allow you to go where you want for the best service. You don't have to go back to the dealer for preventative maintenance like filters or hoses even if they imply you must.

Warranty companies cannot force you to have preventative maintenance service performed by the dealer. (preventative maintenance is not a repair to fix a broken car. It is a service that is performed because of the age or mileage only, such as an oil change, transmission fluid filters, a tune up or fan belt.)

There are many companies that offer extended warranties. Before you buy a used car warranty, always ask if you can take the car where you want for warranty work. If you can't go where you want for the best service, don't buy it. Call us for warranty company phone numbers. MOTORTECH is here to help you get the best help for your vehicle.
